Minoan settlement of Akrotiri, Santorini, Greece, 3,000 BC

Europe’s known most ancient settlement,: Akrotiri, founded by the Minoans 5,000 years ago (3,000 BC). The settlement was dastroyed in 1,450 BC by theTheran volcano eruption, that is believed to have destroyed the Minoans in Crete too. The settlement was preserved quite well due to its burial by the lava masses and provides an excellent glimpse into the everyday life of the Minoans.
